We are looking to employ a Registered Domiciliary care manager for our organisation. Would you advise where we can advertise for this post and what to look for in a potential candidate?
Thank you for your question.
Recruiting a new Registered Manager is always challenging!
There are a number of places where you can advertise:
- The National Skills Academy for Social Care has a jobs section: https://www.nsasocialcare.co.uk/jobs
- The same for the Community Care online magazine: http://jobs.communitycare.co.uk/jobs/adults/?intcmp=Jobs-adults-Navbar
If you look in any of the trade magazines that you receive they all seem to carry adverts for managers.
You could place an advert in your local Job Centre or in your local paper. I have been working with a care home in the Birmingham area and they seem to have had a good range of applicants using these methods.
If all else fails I know of a number of organisations that have used a local recruitment agency.
With regards to what to look for in a potential candidate these are some of what I think might be some of the criteria:
- Experience
- Knowledge of the job requirements
- Knowledge of the law
- Qualifications or willingness to undertake the required qualification
- As you will know for the Manager of a Domiciliary Care Service some serious organisational skills are required.
- Interpersonal skills
I hope this is helpful.
