Hi,
I am qualified to degree level with a BA Hons in Holistic childhood & youth studies. This basically covered the child, family & extended family members and all areas & stages of family life. A large part of my degree covered management. The business planning, advertising, public relations, staff management, allegations, complaints etc. I have managed my own nursery provision & I am currently working within the children & families social care department for our local authority.
My daughter is extremely passionate about care & has worked in homes & around the community. She has experienced some very poor practise & terribly organised care companies. If we were to start our own company could I manage the business side of things with the qualifications I have? My daughter is currently looking into completing her level 5 (or what was 4).
Look forward to your response.
Thank you for your question.
As you know care services either in a care home or a service providing care in the community has to be registered with the Care Quality Commission and there has to be a Registered Manager who has overall responsibility for what happens in the service so your daughter would need to be registered with the Care Quality Commission as the Registered Manager.
You might well be registered as the Responsible Person and it seems to me that you would when your daughter is qualified as a Registered Manager be the perfect fit when you start your business.
I would advise you though to study the guidance on the Care Quality Commission website which I believe you would find very helpful. http://www.cqc.org.uk/content/what-registration
You should also undertake your own market research into whether or not there is a need in the area where you intend to deliver the service for the service you are intending to provide.
If you can, also talk to other responsible providers about whether or not there is a need.
You should also look at your local Council’s commissioning strategy.
With all good wishes for the future.
Sheila
