Dear Dawn,

The Social Care (Self-Directed Support)(Scotland) Act 2013 came into force in April 2014, the core values of inclusion, contribution and empowerment through real choice and respect are at the heart of the Independent Living Movement which influenced the Act.

It came about to change the way social service were delivered in Scotland and view individuals as “People First”. The principles are, Involvement,  Collaboration,  Informed Choice, Participation and Dignity, basically puts the person at the centre of the support planning process.

It enables people, carers and families to make informed choices about what their social care support is and how it is delivered.

You, as a provider must demonstrate you support all these principles and values, whilst supporting people. For more information click here.

Hope this helps.
