I am looking at becoming a self-employed Home Help supplying domestic services, shopping etc. I will not be undertaking any type of personal care but I will be offering to make meals. Do I need to register with CQC? Many Thanks
Dear C,
Thank you for your question.
You should read “The Scope of Registration” paper published by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in March 2015.
If you start at page 19 of this document the document spells out in detail which services are required to be registered and there is also a very helpful diagram on page 21 which I am sure you will find useful.
None of the services that you identify in your question require registration by CQC.
You will, however, need to deliver the appropriate training to your staff to make sure that you are legally compliant with the relevant Health and Safety legislation.
You must also comply with the regulatory requirements for the preparation and serving of food.
You would be best to contact your local Environmental Health Officer for further advice about this.
I hope this is helpful.
Best wishes,
Sheila
