How I can implement and demonstrate compliance with KLOEs in my service and what kind of evidence can I put in my file to show to demonstrate we are working towards achieving outstanding rating for my service?
I look forward to a detailed reply.
Thanks Sheila.
Dear Qasim,
Thank you for your question.
You do not say what category of service you are providing but the principles are the same whatever the service.
The first thing you need to be familiar with is the provider handbook:
The important documents (the appendices) are found here (below) and contain the KLOE’s for Care Homes and a second one for Home Care
https://www.cqc.org.uk/sites/default/files/20150327_asc_community_provider_handbook_appendices_march_15_update_01.pdf
These appendices with the KLOEs identify the KLOEs themselves and then the potential sources of evidence.
You need to go through these systematically, some may or will not apply to your service but you need to be sure that you can demonstrate that you are compliant with all the relevant points.
Every service is different but the evidence you put forward would be the types of forms that you use to collect evidence and policies and procedures. You will also need to have evidence of all training undertaken.
There are some areas that CQC may take a particular interest in and these will probably include;
The Handling of Medication
Matters relating to the Mental Capacity Act looking closely at Best Interest decisions
Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
Care Plans
Staff Records
Other evidence would include audits and any decisions that you have made to improve the quality of the service you provide.
The outstanding rating is not easy to achieve but you would need to be demonstrating your quality assurance improvements no matter how small and any innovative practice you have introduced.
There is a great deal of information on the CQC website.
Best wishes.
Sheila
