Hi Sheila,
We are a small home with a maximum of nine residents, we rely on privately funded clients, we couldn’t cope financially with just local authority funding.
What would happen from next April when the Care Cap is introduced; can we still ask for a third party contribution or is local authority going to meet our real cost?
As you probably know now the Government have deferred the implementation of the Care Cap until 2020. I think this is a good thing because your concerns were reflected throughout the sector.
The Department of Health had consulted about the proposed new regulations and we were awaiting their response to the consultation when the announcement was made about the deferment until 2020.
There was in the consultation a proposal for not only third party top up but also for first party top up and that would be very important for care providers such as yourself.
Now we have to wait and see what the Government does next on this important subject.
You can read more about the Government’s announcement here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/delay-in-the-implementation-of-the-cap-on-care-costs
Best wishes,
Sheila
