Do we need to have maternity coverage for our registered manager? | QCS

Hi Sheila,

Do we need to appoint or recruit a new Registered Manager should the existing one go on maternity leave?

Dear Owen,

Thank you for your question.

If the Registered Manager is absent for more than 28 days you need to formally inform CQC. https://www.cqc.org.uk/content/notifications

You should inform CQC of the arrangements you have put in place to cover the Registered Manager’s absence.

The interim Manager that you appoint could be:

  • Yourself if you are the Responsible Individual and you have the required experience and expertise to carry out the role.
  • A senior member of staff who you are confident has the required experience and expertise.
  • You could advertise for an interim Manager or seek assistance from a recruitment agency.

I hope this is helpful.
