Hi, who is responsible for deciding the quality standards of care for our elders in the following settings:
Home care provided by an agency?
Home care provided by a family member?
Care provided in a care home?
Dear J,
Thank you for your question.
There are no quality standards for home care provided by a family member.
Care in a care home or care provided by a care agency at home is a regulated activity regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
On their website the Care Quality Commission says:
“We’re the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England.
We make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and we encourage care services to improve.” https://www.cqc.org.uk/content/about-us
If you go to https://www.cqc.org.uk/content/guidance-providers on their website, you can see information about regulations and how CQC inspects services.
Best wishes.
Sheila
