October is Black History Month and there are a number of resources that care providers can share with the people they care for and support.
This month’s theme is ‘Saluting our Sisters’, with the aim to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contributions of Black women to British society across a whole range of sectors including health and social care, both empowering and inspiring future generations.
Care providers can actively continue this theme in their workplace across October and beyond, inspiring their own team and encouraging others to join.
What can social care providers do to celebrate Black History Month?
Our partner, Skills for Care, has a range of resources, blogs and articles on equality, diversity, and inclusion in social care. Throughout October they will be publishing a series of Black History Month special edition Good News Friday blogs featuring stories of black female role models who have inspired change or made significant contributions to the sector. The first blog will feature Tricia Pereira, Director of Operations, at Skills for Care.
Additionally, they will be hosting a webinar:
Achieving Equity in the Workplace – celebrating and supporting our Black sisters in social care
Tuesday 17th October 2023 12.00 – 13.00
NAPA, another QCS partner, is also producing resources for care providers to use. NAPA members can access them FREE of charge in The Shed, its members-only digital platform. Resources can also be purchased from the NAPA Shop.
There are lots of events surrounding Black History Month that you may be able to attend with service users, so please check here, locally and also online events.
